October 27, 2017 / Manila, Philippines.
The Philippines will play host to the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit 2017 (ABIS) from November 13-14, 2017 at the Solaire Grand Ballroom in Parañaque City. ABIS is the premier annual event of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC) that brings attention to investment opportunities, global issues and key strategic directions in the ASEAN today. With the theme World Leaders’ Roadmap Towards Prosperity for All, the event promotes dialogue among the private sector and with the region’s leaders including Heads of State, Ministers of ASEAN Member States and ASEAN partners.

“This year’s ASEAN Business and Investment Summit is gathering the leaders from the business, investor, and policymaking communities who play an integral role in making “prosperity for all” more than just a mere motto and into our future reality,” said Joey Concepcion, ABAC Chair. “With dialogues that will touch on the most pertinent issues in development and business, the event hopes to be a stepping stone leading towards public-private partnerships favoring inclusive business and consequentially, inclusive growth.”

Through forums tackling multi-channel connectivity, infrastructure development, entrepreneurial empowerment, disruptive innovation, and entrepreneurship in the digital economy, the two-day summit aims to provide corporate leaders, government executives, MSMEs, youth & women leaders, and various enablers with key insights allowing them to effectively leverage the burgeoning economy of the ASEAN. The list of distinguished speakers who have confirmed to date are H.E. Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counselor of Myanmar; Alex Feldman, US-ASEAN Business Council; David Foote, Zennya; Dr. Robert Yap, YCH Group; Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, United Nations; Dr. Yuri Sato, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO); Enrique Razon, International Container Terminal Services Inc.; Gov. Nestor Espenilla, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas; Jaime Zobel de Ayala II, Ayala Corp.; Manny Pangilinan, PLDT Group; Mario Pezzini, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD); Nick Nash, Sea Group; Pornthida Wongphatharakul, Siam Organic; Prof. Hidetoshi Nishimura, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN (ERIA); Sirina Sisombat-Hervy, Sinuok Coffee; Teresita Sy-Coson, SM Investments Corp.; and Tony Fernandes, AirAsia; with many more expected to confirm in the following days.

During the event, ABAC will also launch the ASEAN Mentors for Entrepreneurs Network (AMEN), a private-public partnership platform where mentors and world class teaching modules for micro, small and medium enterprise empowerment can be developed and actively shared among ASEAN Member States.

“At ABAC, we believe that the private sector can create the biggest impact in terms of promoting inclusive growth by focusing on the 3 M’s. These are Mentorship, which is the purpose of AMEN, Money and Market. Mentorship is the most powerful tool in helping entrepreneurs, especially the marginalized micro and small entrepreneurs, move up from survival to sustainability but they also need access to credit to bring their ideas to life as well access to bigger markets, through new platforms like e-commerce, to flourish,” adds Chairman Concepcion.
